Dr. Mary Moloney, Lecturer Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, CIT

  • Speaker Bio:
    Dr Mary Moloney qualified with a BE (1st class honours) in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering (1989) and a PhD (2015) from UCC.  She is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland and was Chairman of the Cork Region in 2002-2003. Mary Moloney has been lecturing in CIT since 2006, and is a Lecturer in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. Mary has held many positions in industry as: a Structural Designer; Construction Manager; Senior Projects Engineer; and Procurement Team Leader with Pfizer.
    She commenced her academic career in October 2005 in UCC, where she lectured in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She later moved to CIT in 2006, and lectures at all levels across the programmes of the department, while also lecturing in the Cork Centre of Architectural Education since its inception in 2006. Mary has a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Engineering from Trinity College Dublin, a certificate in Health and Safety from UCD, and graduated from UCC with her PhD in Civil Engineering in the summer of 2015. Mary’s PhD was on the ‘Irish State infrastructural investment: an analysis of past patterns, and an outline of a future Integrated Systems of Systems evaluation methodology’, much of which has been published in peer reviewed journal papers and conference proceedings.
    Mary’s research interests are primarily focused on: sustainable infrastructure development and delivery; Irish state infrastructural investment across its productive networks; planning policy and its relationship with infrastructure development; stakeholder engagement in infrastructure evaluation and decision making; tax incentives and their impact on the construction sector; the Irish Ghost Estate phenomenon and its impact on infrastructure delivery and sizing; infrastructure data availability and accessibility; and project management and delivery.
