Dr. Barry McAuley- Construction it Alliance (CitA)


    Bio: Barry has spent a number of years in the AEC/FM industry which has seen him occupy a number of roles. These roles have included working as a surveyor on the Dublin Port Tunnel and as a setting out engineer on various road realignment works throughout Dublin. Barry also worked as a project manager / engineer, on both a planning and operational capacity, on a number of high profile jobs i.e. Luas and Clancy Quay. During this time Barry also worked as part of the Facilities Management (FM) Team in the Sports Surgery Clinic.


    On return to education in 09 he completed a MSc in Construction Project Management. After completion of this full time Masters course he took time out to travel. On return to Ireland in 2011 he began a full time Ph.D based around creating interactive FM capabilities through BIM which he completed in 2016. This at the time in 2012 led to employment with CitA on a part time basis with regards to the research and development of their BIM Workshops. This partnership resulted in him being part of the organisation and scientific committee for the successful CITA BIM Gathering in 2013 and 2015, as well as the organisation committee for the successful CITA Technology Challenge in 2014.


    At Present Barry is currently the lead postdoctoral researcher for the BIM Innovation Capability Programme, which is an Enterprise Ireland initiative facilitated through CitA in partnership with the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). Barry is also a part time lecturer on both the MSc in Construction Informatics and MSc in Applied BIM and Management at DIT. He also holds the position of  Arnorld F Graves Postdoctoral Scholar within the School of Surveying and Construction Management in DIT.
